Healthcare Notification Framework

Our mission was to build a scalable notification system for a mobile app managing clinical trials. Patient adherence to precise medication schedules and vital monitoring made this crucial. Our small team of UX designers, writers, researchers, and marketers focused on meeting strict regulatory, partner, and timeline requirements. We created guidelines for delivering notifications across mobile and email, with clear rules for frequency and timing. My role was shaping the communication strategy and crafting user-centered content, including notification copy and onboarding materials.

1. Connecting with clinical users

Alongside marketing comms and other UX disciplines, I began by immersing myself in the world of clinical stakeholders, conducting in-depth interviews and empathy-building exercises to truly understand their unique needs and challenges. This deep dive allowed me to craft a content strategy that not only addressed user pain points but also supported broader business objectives.

2. Advocating for UX

The UX team and I took the initiative to "socialize" the project's value across the organization, ensuring leadership and cross-functional teams understood its potential impact. When faced with tech limitations, we proactively adapted the approach, finding creative solutions to keep the user experience in front.

3. Creating a shared vision

I led the development of a comprehensive UXW goals document that served as a guiding light for the entire UX side of the project. This transparent and accessible resource ensured everyone was aligned on key objectives, deliverables, and success metrics, fostering efficient decision-making.

4. Mapping the content journey

At the core of my work was the creation of a detailed content matrix, meticulously mapping each piece of content to specific user needs, communication channels, and platform constraints. This user-centric framework helped identify gaps in the existing system and led us to key improvements like improved targeting and task completion rates.

5. Ensuring a smooth transition

Despite challenges, my team made significant progress. We developed a notification system that addressed critical user pain points and meticulously prepared stakeholders for the project handoff. Even as I transitioned to a new role, I did my best to make sure the project was set up for continued success.
